Hello all,

I wonder if the Photoshop experts here can offer me some advice on a project I have taken on. I'm putting together a large "photo board" with a head shot of each of the members of a volunteer organization I'm involved with. I have ~120 individual .jpg's of each person, all cropped and adjusted and scaled down to fit. I'm scaling each photo to about 480 x 640 (maybe smaller) to fit the space I have. We have someone with access to a large format printer/plotter who can print at approx 3' x 4' for us.

Anywho, where I need help is in putting all of these individual pics together. My original plan was to bring each photo in as a separate layer. That way it's pretty easy to shuffle them around, etc. I'm thinking down the road, when some people have left, and new people have joined, and making life easier for myself when its time to update this thing. But it's a real pain to manage all those layers, and so far I've only brought about 20 or so images in. Has anybody done anthing like this? Is there an easier way? I figure this is really just a giant scrapbook page I'm making, so the stuff I've learned here should apply. But so far Linda hasn't done a WBWT about this!

Appreciate any tips or pointers you can offer.

Jeff.

I don't think you'll need separate layers for future editing.

If you are keeping your photos rectangular, it will be easy to select one to replace using the marquee tool and just using edit>cut - you can then paste the new photo in it's place

As far as doing the original - why not make your project in four sections - manipulating 1/4 of the photos until you are happy and then merging the four sections.

I'm a novice PSE4 user - and I'm sure you'll get better advice - but this is how I'd approach it.

Hi Jeff ...

If you are using Photoshop then I would suggest that you make groups of each row of faces ... that way they will be a lot easier to find next time you want to change one.

... also name each layer with the persons name and also give each group names like Back Row ... 2nd Row etc.

Using groups will make the layers much more manageable :)
