I remember about a year and a half or so ago in the newsletter that Linda sends was a link to a tutorial on how to do decorative shapes in her case a butterfly that had text in the shape. So the text was typed in the butterfly. I need to use that tech. and I can't find it anywhere.

Anyone know how to do this?? I have PSE3 and no paths. Thanks

Hi ..

I think that you mean the one that was in one of the Week by Week Techniques .. if you take a look in the store (bargain section) you will find it in there :)

Yes, it was a WBWT (in the embellishment series (http://www.scrappersguide.com/store/product.php?productid=16277&cat=248&page=1) we taught in January) The technique demonstrated in that video works in both PS and PSE.

Here's a way to do it in CS3 (why no paths??) --it's easy! Try this!

Choose U (custom Shape tool) and drag out your star (pick a solid black one)
Rasterize layer
Ctrl+click the shape in the layer's palette to get selection
Click on Path's tab, and at the bottom click on the little icon that looks like a path on top of a circle --to create your work path

change your foreground color to the color you want your text to be

pick up (T)Type tool, and click INSIDE your star, not on the edge of it (like you would to make the type go around the outside of the path)

Type in your text (OR paste in text from any other source)

Type in all the text you want and it will conform to the shape of your star quite nicely.

Give it a try--you'll be glad to know how to do this in Photoshop--a feature NOT available in Elements.
