When I choose the Type Tool not all of the options bar (the one across the top) is displayed. Several options have disappeared, it is easier to say what is still showing. I still have the drop down for the fonts and the drop down for Regular, Bold, etc. the font size is displayed but greyed out, then there is a long empty space and the the Pt. field is displayed but greyed out. I am working in Vista on PSE7. I have been using the type function for several days now and all has been fine...until today. I can not find how to reset the tools either. I hope I have just pushed a wrong combination of keys somewhere and someone knows how to fix this.

Oh, Oh it is much worse. I now realize that the option bars are not coming up for any of my tools that have option bars. Such as cookie cutter, clone, brushes etc. Have I turned the option bars off some how?

The best thing to try:

Quit Elements. Then press and hold ctrl-alt-shift as you start the editor. A dialog will ask if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

.. and just check what resolution your screen is set to.

If its too low then now all the things show up :)

YES, Trish this did the trick! I am so relieved. I have over 3000 pictures in the organizer and I really did not want to uninstall and install again. I know for some this is no big deal, but it is for me. I am just so happy with this simple fix. My screen resolution seems ok, but good idea to keep in mind.
You SG folks and all the forum users just rock. I really feel "backstopped" with PSE because of all of you. Thanks again.

I'm glad that worked. Usually, that is the "last resort" method, but when things seem really bad, it can be the "first resort."

I have a similar problem with the text tool in my new Elements 7 software. Tried your tip to no avail. All of a sudden am unable to scroll thru the typeface dropdown box. Called Adobe & they said to reset tools---didn't work---then to restart---didn't work---then to open "run" move all icon onto desktop, etc. to no avail...finally said to uninstall and reinstall which I have done and it hasn't corrected the problem. Adobe tech said I am missing a scroll bar alongside my typeface choices. I used to be able to scroll thru choices with my mouse scroll wheel -- or by placing cursor at top/or/bottom of dropdown window and it would quickly scroll up/down accordingly. Now the only way I can get out of the window displaying type from Myriad Pro thru Sabina is to use my arrow keys on the keyboard. Honestly can't figure whatever could have happened! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Some have seen this problem. You should be able to use your mouse to highlight one of the visible ones, and then drag down and it will start to scroll.

I think there is a bug, but Adobe is in denial (because it's probably a really subtle bug, and those are the hardest), and no, that's not a river in Egypt!
