I'm trying to learn the tutorial "Ribbon Wrapping" & am stumped on Step 4 (Delete excess ribbon). It instructs you to put a selection around the element (which I can) and then choose "Select - Modify - but I can't get Expand to come up. (After I select my element it asks me to commit to that entry w/the check mark, etc - but it won't work that way either.)
I am using Elements 7. Any suggestions would be welcome! I'm a beginner - so please be basic! Thanks - Carol

I haven't seen the tutorial you are talking about but here's the way I do it. I select the extra ribbon I need to get rid of and then just hit delete. I use pse 7 too.

Hi there ...

When you do Select>Modify ... you should be able to move your cursor onto Modify and Expand will appear along with Border, Smooth and Contract.

What happens when you try to do that ??

that is what I usually do too.

If I am using select >modify, I first have to have the marching ants around the selection. I do this by ctrl key and a mouse click into the thumbnail of the layer in the layer palette.

Thanks for your input -but things still aren't working right! How exactly do I put 'marching ants' around my element? In the directions it reads....Hold Ctr & click on the thumbnail of the paper piece layer to put a selection around it. Then it goes on about the Select - Modify - Expand, etc. I can select it - but that doesn't put the marching ants around it. I can just move the whole element. I'm trying to take the excess off a ribbon that I'm trying to wrap around a notebook. It's probably really easy - I'm just not picking up a step or so. Thanks for all your help. - Carol

Hi ...

When it says select if you do theat right then you set the marching ants around it.

Try this ...

Go to the layers palette
Hold down the Control key then click with the cursor on the thumbnail of the paper piece layer.

You should now have the marching ants ... and Select>Modify>Expand will work :)
