My daughter shared a photo with me of this beautiful quilt, designed and created by a friend of hers, at which time, I was blown away by the design, detail and creative art of Nancy Tracy.
The journaling reads: This beautiful Peacock Quilt was designed and constructed by Nancy Tracy, a very talented designer of Loveland CO. Nancy won "Best First Time Entry" for pieced quilts in the Hoffman Challenge. Even though the quilt is only 30" in diameter, it took over 5 yards of the challenge fabric to get enough peacock bodies and flowers to do the design. Additional Notes from Nancy: The design for this quilt was inspired by Japanese temari, traditional decorative balls. I drew up a traditional kiku (chrysanthemum) design in AutoCAD, had it printed full-size and paper-pieced the top. I quilted the center of the quilt by stitching around the peacock and the leaves, then doing some heavy quilting around them to make them stand out. I outlined the temari design, then quilted a peacock feather design that I created over the wedges around the outside of the quilt Credits: Create Background Paper lesson by Julie Mead Photo: copyright by and compliments of Kelly Gallagher-Abbott Font: Albemarle Swash and Angelina All designs are my own. The background (light blue) paper was created using the photo of the quilt, and a photo of my swede computer chair. Then an artistic pattern fill was applied. It has a slight resemblance to stained glass, which I thought went well with the quilt design |
